WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama’s policies have massively increased poverty in the United States, forcing almost 12 million more people to obtain food stamps, and leaving more than 90 million adults without jobs, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Monday.
"Nearly 12 million people have been added to the food stamps [program] since President Obama took office," Trump stated in a speech to the Detroit Economic Club. "We have the lowest labor force participation rates in four decades. There are now 93.4 million Americans outside of the labor force. It was 80.4 million when Obama took office."
Trump noted that the US home ownership was currently at its lowest rate in 51 years, and the latest economic growth rate of 1.2 percent under Obama was the weakest since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
"One on five American households do not have a single member in the labor force… The 5 percent figure [official unemployment rate] is one of the biggest hoaxes in modern American politics," he explained.
Trump also attacked Obama for issuing more than 400 new regulations crippling private enterprise and the US economy.
He pledged to immediately cancel all illegal and unnecessary executive orders if elected US president in November.
