Rousseff’s Impeachment Process Continues to Gain Momentum

The Brazilian Senate began a meeting on August 9 in which the future of Dilma Rousseff was to be determined.

In the event of a simple majority (41 senators from 81) of votes for the continuation of the impeachment process, then by the end of August, the Senate will arrange another meeting to reach a final solution to this issue.

Then for agreeing on the impeachment process 54 votes will be needed.

The current meeting will last for about 20 hours as the decision has to be announced on early Wednesday morning.

The question was taken into account at the request of the opposition political parties in Brazil, who appeared at the Congress in 2015 with a demand to dismiss the head of the state.

The opposition party also requested an investigation of Dilma Rousseff for alleged involvement in tax fruad and illegal use of state funds for re-election in 2014.
