ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in the Russian city of St. Petersburg earlier in the day for first talks to reset bilateral relations after the November 2015 downing of a Russian aircraft by Turkey.
“The region expects very much from me and you from a political viewpoint. I believe that our cooperation will bring great contribution to resolving many problems in the region,” Erdogan said.
Ankara and Moscow ended seven months of strained relations in late June when Erdogan wrote a letter to Putin in which he apologized for the Su-24 incident.
