MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, May held phone conversations with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen on Monday.
"In both calls, the Prime Minister explained that we are keen to approach negotiations for Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union in a constructive and positive way," the statement said.
According to the statement, London does not intend to trigger the article 50 of the EU code, which would signify the start of Britain’s exit from the bloc before the end of the year. The decision should allow both EU and UK institutions to prepare for the transition, "helping to ensure a smooth and orderly departure of the UK from the EU."
On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
