If the US government refuses to extradite US-based dissident Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen it would be effectively sacrificing its relations with Turkey for the sake of a terrorist, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Turkey has repeatedly asked the United States to extradite Gulen. The Turkish government dubbed Gulen's supporters as the so-called Fethullah Gullen Terrorist Organization (FETO) and designated them a terrorist organization. In 2014, Turkey opened an investigation into the organization's allegedly activities to overthrow the government.

"If the US does not extradite Gulen, it will sacrifice Turkey for a terrorist," Bozdag said at state-run Anadolu Agency’s editorial team.

Gulen is 'White House's Trump Card Against Turkey', Will Never be Extradited
On July 15, the Turkish authorities said an attempted coup was taking place in the country which was suppressed by the next day. About 250 people died during the coup attempt.

Ankara has accused Gulen and his followers of playing a key role in the coup.

Gulen, who has been living in the US state of Pennsylvania since 1999, has denied the allegations that he orchestrated the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey.
