MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Famous Russian sculptor Ernst Neizvestny died at the age of 91 in New York, journalist Oleg Sulkin reported.
“Ernst Neizvestny has died. I cannot say anything yet, [I am] on the verge of tears. I am shocked and depressed. That is a great loss for the Russian culture, for everybody, who knew this extraordinary man,” Sulkin, who was Neizvestny’s friend, wrote on his Facebook page.
Neizvestny, who had been living in the United States since 1977, created a number of famous sculptures, for example, the Lotus Blossom at the Aswan Dam in Egypt (1966), Prometheus in the young pioneer camp Artek on the Crimean Peninsula (1971) and the Mask of Sorrow in Magadan, Russia (1996).
