A 40-year-old man was left to die in India's capital Delhi after he was struck by a transport vehicle. Police said the man lay bleeding on the side of road for more than an hour, however, no one provided assistance. Not was he ignored, one bystander even stole his mobile phone.
"We are examining the CCTV footage and are putting in all efforts to identify the culprits. As per footage, later on one rickshaw-puller picked up the victim's mobile and left. No one helped the victim," Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police Deependra Pathak said.

According to statistics, 50% of road deaths in India occur because help never comes. It's common practice for Indians to shun victims as fear of the police and a tedious legal process punish those who do give aid. Furthermore, there are less and less police on the roads, with current figures showing only 5 per 100,000.
