MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Former football player and manager Stanislav Cherchesov was officially appointed as the new head coach of the Russian national football team, the team said on Twitter on Thursday.

"Stanislav Cherchesov has been officially appointed as the head coach of the Russian national team," the statement read.
Cherchesov’s predecessor Leonid Slutsky abandoned the post after Russia’s unsuccessful performance in the Euro-2016 tournament earlier this summer.
