MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The proposed measure, devised in response to recent terrorist attacks in Germany, includes steps to make it easier to deport migrants deemed to be a threat to public security, stripping dual nationals who fought for terrorist organizations abroad of their German citizenship, banning the burka and loosening medical confidentiality.
"There is no real adequate countermeasure. It is better to fight the roots of terrorism, but in the meantime, the measures are a step in the right direction," Schmidt said.
According to the spokesman, only the measures providing for the prompt deportation of persons who have provided false information about their identity, have committed offenses or pose other threats to public safety can contribute to lowering the terror threat.
The proposals come following lone-wolf Islamist attacks in Germany's Ansbach and Wuerzburg, and a shooting spree in Munich in July.
"Granting dual citizenship is not a right but a privilege and can be revoked without violating a 'right.' Burka wearing (i.e. full body cover) might be interpreted as a religious 'right' but is contentious in the western European context and in ALFA's view rightly so. As far as accelerated deportation is concerned, these would not be carried out without legal grounds. Insofar there would also not be involved any violation of rights," Christian Schmidt said.
