US-Led Coalition Airstrikes Destroy 15 Daesh Oil Tankers in Syria

Airstrikes conducted by the US-led coalition against Daesh destroyed 15 terrorist oil tankers near the Syrian city of Deir Ez-zor on Wednesday, the US Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The coalition also conducted 15 airstrikes in Syria near the city of Manbij, hitting 14 Daesh tactical units and destroying eight fighting positions and six vehicles, among other targets.

"Near Dayr Az Zawr [Deir Ez-zor], two strikes destroyed 15 ISIL [Daesh] oil tankers," the release said on Thursday.

An additional airstrike near Palmyra hit a Daesh tactical unit and terrorists’ vehicle, according to the release.

In Iraq, nine coalition airstrikes near six cities hit Daesh tactical units and fighting positions, as well as five assembly areas, 22 rocket rails and 22 rockets, according to the task force.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since the summer of 2014.

The Iraqi operations are coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq, but the airstrikes in Syria are conducted without the approval of President Bashar Assad.
