RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) – Russian swimmer Evgeny Rylov won bronze in men’s 200m backstroke, bringing the Russian Rio Olympic medal toll to 19.
Rylov completed the distance in 1 minute and 53.97 seconds on Thursday. The bronze is the swimmer’s first Olympic medal.
Earlier on Thursday, Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova won silver in women’s 200m breaststroke.
Efimova completed the distance in 2 minutes 21.97 seconds. She also won silver in women’s 100m breaststroke.
The Summer Olympic Games are being held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from August 5 until August 21. Brazil is the first South American country to host the competition.
Russia currently has four gold medals at the Rio Olympics.
