MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – The 40 police officers were released on Friday morning and arrived at a hospital in the Bolivian city of La Paz with several injuries, the La Paz Department chief of police, Jose Luis Aranibar, told media as cited by El Diario on Friday.
The police officers were held by miners in the town of Mantecani, about 70 kilometers (43 miles) from La Paz, since Thursday.
The miners were blocking roads in protest against a new reform that would regulate the creation of unions. They took hostage the police officers who tried to get them to unblock the roads. On Friday, the miners decided to temporary remove their roadblocks in the La Paz Department.
