MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) President Dmitry Shlyakhtin said that the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) had not allowed Klishina to participate at the Rio Olympics and that her appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) would be reviewed on Sunday.
"This characterizes campaign against the Russian sport, its discredit….You see haw cohesively they work. And as for Dasha, [the decision] is beyond common sense. I do not know how to characterize it. I do not know why people are capable of doing so. All this is inhuman," Mutko told R-Sport.
In July, the IAAF prohibited all Russian athletes from taking part in international competitions, including the upcoming Rio Olympics, except long jump athlete Klishina, who trains in the United States. According to R-Sport sources, the new IAAF’s decision was based on additional findings of the McLaren investigation into doping allegations against Russian athletes.
