WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Saturday, Milwaukee police shot and killed an armed 23-year-old African-American man.
Later that day, the local authorities arrested 17 people after rioters injured four officers, damaged seven squad cars and set six businesses on fire.
On Sunday, the Wisconsin National Guard was activated in the event Milwaukee police may need assistance, but the police managed to arrest multiple rioters for setting cars on fire.
Outsiders "are deliberately trying to damage a great neighborhood in a great city," Barrett stated as quoted by CBS News. "Those individuals are deliberately trying to damage Sherman Park and this city."
On Monday morning, police officers said they were restoring order in the area where most of the rioting has occurred over the weekend.
