BERLIN (Sputnik) — Relations between the two countries have recently warmed up after they hit rockbottom following the downing of a Russian warplane by a Turkish jet last November.
"I’d like to stress that we welcome talks, which Russia and Turkey are reportedly holding as part of their rapprochement process, including on how to open humanitarian corridors into Aleppo," spokeswoman Sawsan Chebli told reporters.
The UN estimates that between 250,000 and 275,000 people have been trapped in eastern Aleppo after the only route into the area was shut in July amid heaving fighting. Recently, rebel forces made attempts to cut supply lines into the divided city’s western districts.
