WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Naval Strike Missile (NSM), which can destroy enemy ships more than 100 miles away, will be manufactured for the first time in the United States under a contract award from the US Navy, the defense contractor Raytheon announced in a press release on Wednesday.
"This contract will enable us to add jobs while providing our Norwegian teammates with world-class launchers," Raytheon Missile Systems President Taylor Lawrence said in the release.
The Norwegian defense company Kongsberg, a Raytheon partner, developed the missile with a range of more than 100 nautical miles that can destroy land and sea targets, the release explained.
The missile launchers will be made at a factory in the US state of Kentucky, the release noted. The amount of the contract was not disclosed.
