MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia continues to fight terrorism in Syria despite this situation, Lavrov added, noting that counterterrorism efforts would soon be improved to become more coordinated and efficient.
"I don't want to cast doubt on our partners' commitment to resolving all these issues, but this could have been done much earlier if solemn promises to distinguish opposition from terrorists, made in January and February when the International Syria Support Group was meeting, had been fulfilled. It is very unfortunate that our partners have in essence proven that they cannot do that," Lavrov told reporters after a meeting with New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully.
Russia has repeatedly said that the United States has continued to fail to distinguish between the Jabhat Fatah al Sham (previously known as the Nusra Front) and moderate opposition when negotiating a deal to fight Daesh in Syria.
