Ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych seeks to have a face-to-face confrontation with incumbent leader Petro Poroshenko.

KIEV (Sputnik) — Toppled Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych addressed General prosecutor's Office asking for a video face-to-face interrogation with current President Petro Poroshenko and other Ukrainian top officials over the 2014 coup-related violence case, Yanukovych's lawyer Vitaliy Serdyuk said Wednesday.

"To ensure objectivity, to ensure the completeness of the interrogation, the complete clarity of the circumstances, in order to avoid contradictions in the testimony, it is necessary to stage a confrontation," Serdyuk said at the Ukraine 112 broadcaster.

He added that should the confrontation happen, Yanukovych would remain in court in Rostov.

Mass protests erupted in Ukraine after Yanukovych refused to sign an association agreement with the European Union. The government of Yanukovych was toppled after months of protests in Kiev's landmark Maidan square in February 2014.

During the clashes between the security forces and the protesters more than a hundred people died. New Ukrainian authorities headed by the President Poroshenko put the blame on Yanukovych.
