WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Edwards noted that within hours of him requesting a federal disaster declaration, President Barack Obama had called him to discuss the situation and approve the declaration.
Edwards also said the White House has been in contact with him every day, and Obama also sent the Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to Louisiana on Tuesday, while on Thursday he sent Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson.
Additionally, Edwards pointed out that while the US president is always welcome to visit, he would prefer not to have Obama arrive now due to the security conditions required to be guaranteed for a presidential visit.
"I am not complaining in any way about our federal partnership," Edwards stated.
Some conservative news media and online blogs have criticized President Obama for staying on vacation, instead of heading to Louisiana to deal with the flooding.
