BANGKOK (Sputnik) — There was no official US extradition request for Dmitry Ukrainsky, a Russian national residing in Thailand, who was detained in Pattaya in mid-July at the request of the FBI, the Russian Embassy in Thailand said Thursday.
"According to our information, an official request for the extradition of Dmitry Ukrainsky has not been received in Thailand yet," an embassy representative told RIA Novosti.
The extradition treaty between Thailand and the United States provides for a preliminary request under which a temporary or provisional arrest in connection with the issue of extradition is being made.
Under the treaty, the US has 60 days to send an official extradition request. Dmitry Ukrainsky was detained on July 15 and arrested on July 21. Therefore the US still has time to send it.
Ukrainsky, 44, was detained on suspicion of credit card fraud. He denies the guilt.
