Bimalendra Nidhi, Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal, arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit as a special envoy of newly elected Nepalese prime minster Pushpa kamal Dahal. The visit is significant as it is believed that the new government in Nepal is reaching out to both India and China to have cordial relations with both neighbors in contrast to his ousted predecessor, former prime minister of Nepal khadga Prasad Oli, who was considered pro-China.
Nidhi's visit is significant as Nepal is on its way to reconstruct itself after the massive earthquake which killed more than 8,000 people and hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless with entire villages flattened across many districts of the country. Senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and NDMA were present on the occasion.
During the discussion, India’s vast experience in managing floods, avalanches, earthquakes and landslides, with special emphasis on post-disaster reconstruction efforts after earthquakes was highlighted by NDMA officials and Nepal showed interest in replicating a similar setup with the help of India.
That same day Nidhi also met Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed a host of bilateral Issues.
