MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On August 17, two men armed with guns and axes attacked a traffic patrol station located some 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) from Moscow. As a result, two police officers sustained injuries, one of them is in critical condition. Media reports suggested that Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack.
"This version was examined initially, even as the circumstances of the attack cast doubt on the reasoning behind it. But then terrorists [media] resources reported about their involvement, and now there is a video on the Internet where two men [looking similar to the attackers] pledged allegiance to the terrorist organization. Therefore, the information will be thoroughly checked," the source said.
The source added that an attempt to claim police weapons and conflict with police officers remain the main versions on motives behind the attack.
Daesh is outlawed in many countries including Russia.
