Lithuania Signs $436Mln Deal to Purchase German Armored Fighting Vehicles

Lithuanian Defense Minister said that ministry signed a contract worth 386 million euros ($436 million) with the German armored vehicle technology company (ARTEC) for the procurement of 88 Boxer armored fighting vehicles.

VILNIUS (Sputnik) The Lithuanian Defense Ministry on Monday signed a contract worth 386 million euros ($436 million) with the German armored vehicle technology company (ARTEC) for the procurement of 88 Boxer armored fighting vehicles, Lithuanian Defense Minister Juozas Olekas said.

"Eighty-eight Boxer infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) will be purchased for 386 million euros from Germany," Olekas said at a press conference.

The minister stressed that this is the single biggest procurement deal in the history of the Lithuanian army.

According to the ministry, most of the armored vehicles, 84, will be used for military purposes, while four will be retained for training.
