ANKARA (Sputnik) – Turkey’s Supreme Military Council sent 586 colonels into retirement Tuesday as part of a post-coup purge following the council’s session chaired by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim
Turkey’s Defense Minister Fikri Isik estimated earlier that 3,725 military personnel have been dismissed following the July 15 failed government overthrow.
The Supreme Military Council’s other decisions endorsed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan include issuing a two-year service extension to 434 mid-ranking officers and cutting military service to 28 years.
