"Five men have been arrested by West Midlands Counter Terrorism detectives today (Friday 26 August) on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism," the police said.
Two suspects were arrested in the Stoke area of Staffordshire, and three others were arrested in Birmingham, the press release read.
The police added that a bomb disposal squad was deployed to an area in Birmingham following one of the arrests.
In 2015, the number of arrests linked to terrorism hit the record level of 339 in Britain, according to UK police.
In March, police officer Mark Rowley warned there was evidence militants from Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, banned in numerous countries, including Russia, were attempting to "build bigger attacks" in the country.
