MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Afghan special services – the National Security of Directorate (NDS) — said Monday that they had freed an Australian woman who had been kidnapped in Afghanistan earlier this year.
Aid worker Kerry Jane Wilson was abducted in the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province on April 28.
"Kerry Jane Wilson was rescued safely during an NDS special operation in Nangarhar province," the NDS said in a statement, as quoted by the TOLO News outlet.
A number of suspects have been detained in the operation, the news outlet reported. An investigation into the kidnapping is reportedly underway.
Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop confirmed the release of Wilson.
