MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Earlier this month, media reported that Pena Nieto "heavily" plagiarized the 1991 thesis for his law degree. According to media investigation, as many as 29 percent of Pena Nieto's work consisted of other research papers, including 20 paragraphs lifted word-for-word from a book written by former President Miguel de la Madrid, without citation. Pena Nieto did not publicly raised the issue.
"[In the paper] own ideas, another people's ideas with footnotes and another people's ideas without footnotes have been found," the statement said on Monday.
The university added that Pena Nieto could not be exposed to any action in this connection as the case was "old" and the education institution's regulation do not allow a punishment on former students.
