WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US forces took part in the Agile Spirit 16 collective defense drills alongside units from Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria, the US Marine Corps in Europe said in a press release on Monday.
"The exercise provides the platform to train Georgian military units in combined arms operations in the multinational environment," commander of the Georgian Training and Military Education Command, Col. Malkhaz Makardaze, stated.
The annual exercise is taking place in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia between US allies and partners from the Black Sea and Baltic regions and is intended to defend Europe’s eastern flank, according to the press release.
Exercise Agile Spirit 16 will include a number of live-fire training events, including Georgian tanks, US armored vehicles, anti-armor capabilities, including the TOW anti-tank missile system.
