Juncker, Tusk Outline G20 Summit Agenda to Include Migration, Terror Financing

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council head Donald Tusk on Tuesday outlined a six-point list of issues to be discussed at the upcoming Group of Twenty (G20) summit in China, including the migrant crisis, the financing of terrorism and the implementation of the Paris climate deal, in a joint letter addressed to the leaders of EU nations.

In regards to the international refugee crisis, the letter calls on the G20 to continue “playing a role” in tackling it, saying that the issue remains a priority.

“We will call for scaling up humanitarian and development assistance, resettlement, support for refugees and their host communities through international financial institutions and tackling irregular migration,” the letter reads.

The letter also suggests that the G20 meeting should include discussions on boosting jobs, growth and investment, saying that all available policy tools – monetary, fiscal and structural – should be put to work.

The agenda of the G20 meeting will also include the topic of international work on the issues of tax transparency and the financing of terrorism.

“We need to stand together in combatting the financing of terrorism. The G20 has already taken important steps in this direction, and should continue on this path,” it is noted in the letter.

The G20 summit participants should also discuss establishing a resilient monetary system, making a case for open trade and investment, and implementing the Paris climate agreement, according to the letter.

The G20 summit is set to be held in the Chinese city of Hangzhou on September 4-5.
