Julian Assange, the man behind WikiLeaks, claims that “the American liberal press” is responsible for the rise of the Hillary Clinton “demon,” as it has promoted her “neo-McCarthyist” agenda during the 2016 election cycle.

Assange, who has posted troves of sensitive data online detailing the crimes of nation-states and other actors, made his comments during an interview with The New York Times on Wednesday.

“The American liberal press,” he stated via Facebook Live, “in falling over themselves to defend Hillary Clinton, are erecting a demon that is going to put nooses around everyone’s necks as soon as she wins the election, which is almost certainly what she’s going to do.”

In July, WikiLeaks released some 20,000 emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) that revealed how Clinton was heavily favored in the Democratic presidential primaries over rival Bernie Sanders. Following the release, the Clinton camp accused Assange of having links to entities in Russian intelligence who sought to undermine her presidential run.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: Spectacular Blunders of the US Military
Answering the allegations, Assange, residing in the Honduran embassy in London, said that WikiLeaks doesn’t target the West, observing that he has released an estimated 10 million documents shedding light on top-level corruption in many countries, including Russia.

“We also represent whistleblowers who want to speak to the public like a lawyer to the greatest court in the world, the court of public opinion. We don’t target anyone.”

In addition, the “hysteria”  triggered by Clinton over a threat that Russia is attempting to influence the US presidential elections suggests to Assange the paranoia of the McCarthy era.

“Her campaign has effectively called, or maybe even directly called Donald Trump, the opposition leader in this case, a Russian agent,” he said. “Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, the fourth candidate effectively in terms of numbers, has also been called a Russian agent. This is neo-McCarthyist hysteria.”

Assange ruled out Russia as a major threat to the US, suggesting that Moscow is “a bit player” on the international arena.

The Ultimate 21st Century Choice; OBOR or War
Speaking of what will happen if Clinton is elected the new president, Assange indicated that she will follow a precedent established by US President Barack Obama’s administration, which prosecuted more journalists and sources than all previous presidential administration combined. In so-called leak investigations, the Obama administration has abused the Espionage Act, Assange said. The 1917 law was originally intended to prevent support for US enemies during wartime.

The whistleblowing publisher vowed that additional classified documents detailing the behavior of Clinton and her campaign staff will be posted online by WikiLeaks directly before the November presidential election.
