MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran will start the Russia-assisted construction of two new nuclear reactors at the site of the Bushehr nuclear power plant (NPP) in southern Iran, known as the Bushehr-2 project, on September 10, a source in the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) told Sputnik on Thursday.
"The construction of the project will start on September 10, or Shahrivar 20 [according to the Iranian calendar]," the source said.
Bushehr, Iran’s first Russian-built nuclear power plant, began operations in 2011.
The project for Bushehr-2 was presented by Russian nuclear experts in Tehran in September 2014. In November, Iran signed a number of deals with Russia for the construction of two new nuclear reactors at the Bushehr site with an option for an additional six.
