Renzo Piano proposed to build temporary “light” wooden houses, in which people could live until their homes will be rebuilt.
Wooden houses are quickly to build and cost only 600 euros per square meter.
After the city takes its original appearance, wooden houses would be recycled. In their place, fields and pastures would appear again.
Renzo Piano believes that in the long term it is necessary to strengthen all houses along the Apennines, and it will require “building for a period of two generations.”
“We will need help of all countries as the beauty of Italy does not only belong to us. It is architectural heritage of all mankind,” the architect told Sputnik.
On April 6, 2009, an earthquake hit the Abruzzo region, leaving five thousand people without shelter.
