"The EU looks forward to work together with the new Brazilian government to further strengthen EU-Brazil relations and our Strategic Partnership," the source said.
Special attention will be paid to the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela) in the fields of climate change, human rights, migration and cooperation with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), according to the source.
"The EU looks forward to make progress on the EU-Mercosur agreement and we look forward to hold the next EU–Brazil summit in the coming months… Our relations and cooperation are important and we will be continuing to work jointly on various projects of mutual interest," the source added.
The European Union has been in talks with the five nations of Mercosur since 2010 to try and clinch a biregional association agreement, but the agricultural issue remains a major hurdle.
