WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier this week, the last materials were loaded on a Danish ship to be transported to Germany for destruction.
"The removal was completed at the request of the Libyan Government of National Accord… to make responsible progress toward fulfilling Libya's obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention," Price stated on Thursday.
Additionally, the removal prevents the materials from being captured by terrorist groups for use in chemical agents.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) coordinated the removal with Canada, Finland, Germany and the United Kingdom, Price noted.
The materials are the remains of a stockpile obtained by deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi. The last chemical weapons were removed from the country in 2014.
