Imagine being electrocuted while doing a set of squats? Or imagine having constant electric shocks while doing sit ups, push ups or bicep curls? It's not an easy thing to imagine is it? But this technology is being used in fitness centres and gyms across Europe and is now taking London by storm.

A London personal training firm has adopted new technology which helps you get fitter faster — by electrocuting you.

Getting fit could become a whole lot easier if a new technology known as Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) lives up to the hype. EMS uses electrical shocks to trick your muscles into thinking they are working harder than they actually are, meaning a 90-minute workout can be condensed into just 25 minutes.

Exerceo Training is the first company to introduce EMS in the UK. Head trainer Nooroa Ogden told Sputnik news that the technology was revolutionary for the UK.

"It basically feels like pins and needles and like someone is tapping on your skin."

"If you do an hour in the gym, then all you need to do is 25 minutes of this — so if you are pressed for time this is perfect for you," Ogden  told Sputnik.

Ogden says that the concept has been around for a very long time and that in Europe it is used frequently. Exerceo Training has four studios in London where people can go and try out the equipment.

Users wear a special body suit with shock pads during their workout and choose how strong the electrical impulses will be.

"Your brain sends electrical impulses down to your muscles what to do, so your brain is already sending them off. What we do is overload this and we spike it, so we send a lot more electrical impulses to it," Ogden told Sputnik.

The technology could revolutionize fitness, enabling people short of time to cram heavy workouts into mere minutes. As you start the work out you feel the strange impulses of electric shocks across your body.

As you exercise, you can feel yourself getting more and more tired, which only means this training regime is certainly working you out.

Ogden said that a few days after training one should expect to feel the effects of the EMS, as your muscles get more toned. Well one hopes anyway.
