Moscow expects that international organizations, including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), will intensify their efforts to improve journalists' safety in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In late August, Russian journalist and founder of the Novy Region press agency Alexander Shchetinin was found dead in his apartment in the Ukrainian capital, having been shot. Officially, his death was caused by suicide.

"The situation involving journalists' safety in Ukraine causes serious concern. We expect real efforts to be made by relevant human rights organizations, including the OSCE," Dolgov wrote on his Twitter page, calling for a thorough investigation of Shchetinin's death.

Int’l Inaction Leads to Attacks on Journalists in Ukraine
It comes more than a month after Pavel Sheremet, a well-known journalist who had worked in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, was killed when the car he was traveling in blew up in Kiev. The incident is believed to be an assassination, according to investigators.

Several international journalists have been abducted, tortured and killed since the start of 2014. Among the killed journalists are Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin and VGTRK correspondent Igor Kornelyuk, as well as Kiev's Segodnya newspaper photographer Sergei Nikolaev.
