WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Facebook and French-based Eutelsat satellite operator were set to lease bandwidth space on the doomed AMOS satellite. The explosion took place during a routine static fire test at the Cape Canaveral launch pad and was a result of an anomaly, according to SpaceX.
"The Falcon 9 loss is a natural risk consequence of the technology development phase of any new capability," O’Keefe said. "If the developer can’t afford to prove out the systems before routine launch, the early customers bear a significantly greater risk [and] they know that going in, or should know that."
During the explosion of the Falcon 9 rocket yesterday, Israel's Spacecom AMOS-6 telecommunications satellite was destroyed.
