BRATISLAVA (Sputnik) — On July 15, a coup attempt took place in Turkey. It was followed by multiple arrests and dismissals, as well as closure of legal and educational institutions that allegedly had ties to failed coup mastermind Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen.
"We believe that after the coup, we have not received the solidarity we expected from the European Union. I clearly stated that the [Turkish] government was disappointed," the minister said following the talks with EU foreign ministers in Bratislava.
Following the coup attempt, Ankara was slammed for harsh measures and human rights violations. In particular, the European Union threatened to stop negotiations on Turkey's admission if Ankara returned the capital punishment.
