HANGZHOU (Sputnik) — On June 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree instructing the government to take steps aimed at lifting restrictions on tourist travel to Turkey as well as on charter flights.
The first charter flight from Russia to Turkey took place on September 3.
"First of all, I want to express my gratitude. Yes, charter flights have indeed restarted and the first flight took off yesterday," Erdogan said during the meeting with Putin in eastern China.
The Russian president recalled his latest phone conversation with Erdogan where the Turkish leader complained their agreements had been "taking too long to be enacted."
Putin pointed out that the decision to restart charter flights was signed into law by the Russian government on August 28 and came into being six days later.
