Russia's western Siberian city of Tyumen will host the Biathlon World Championships in 2021, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) said in a statement Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Moldovan capital of Chisinau is currently hosting the 12th Regular IBU Congress, which voted for the host cities of the World Biathlon Championships 2020 and 2021.

"Today, on the 4th of September, 12th Regular IBU Congress in Chisinau decided after the WCH´s 2020 also about the organizer of IBU World Championships Biathlon 2021. Following the presentations by the three candidates Nove Mesto na Morave-CZE, Tyumen-RUS and Pokljuka-SLO the Congress voted in the first ballot for Tyumen-RUS to host the IBU World Championships Biathlon 2021," the statement said.

According to the IBU, the 2020 Biathlon World Championships will be held in the Italian city of Antholz.
