The effort to investigate the alleged operations of Russia to influence the political process in the Unites States was spearheaded by Director of US National Intelligence James Clapper, The Washington Post reported.
According to the newspaper, the investigation's aim is to understand the alleged scope and intentions of the Russian side.
At the same time, the daily added, citing a senior intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, that the United States had no "definitive proof" of Russia's involvement in the campaign to influence the US politics.
In July, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed allegations of Russian involvement in the DNC cyberattack as "absurd," saying it was an attempt to "manically use" the issue of Russia in the US electoral campaign.
