The second World Nomad Games opened over the weekends on the shores of the alpine lake Issyk-Kul, situated near the Chinese border in Kyrgyzstan. The tournament promises to become a major international event in the country; they are designed to celebrate the nomadic heritage of the Central Asian nations.

In Kyrgyzstan, 53 nations are competing in eagle hunting, stick wrestling and bone throwing.

The central Asian republic is hosting the second World Nomad Games from September 3 to 8.

Competitors will demonstrate their mastery of 23 sports ranging from mass-wrestling to horse racing.

All participants will dress up in appropriate thematic clothes to demonstrate unity and raise spirits.

Visitors can stay at Kyrgyz Ayily village, where guests can share in the atmosphere of a traditional nomadic lifestyle.

The most fascinating contest is kok-boru, an aggressive Central Asian form of polo in which two teams fight for control of a beheaded goat carcass.
