MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A group of Black Live Matter Activists who occupied the runway at London City Airport on Tuesday morning has been arrested, local police said.
"Nine people erected a tripod and have locked themselves together on the runway… All have now been removed from the runway and taken into police custody," London Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
The police service added that the protesters were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass and breaching London City Airport bylaws.
Black Live Matter UK said in a statement that the action was taken to highlight Britain’s environmental impact on the lives of black people locally and globally.
The protesters reportedly bypassed security by using a rubber dinghy to cross the docks.
The group says the airport caters to people working in financial services making it a facility to help the wealthy.
Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement that raises awareness of violence and systemic racism toward black people.
