"Attacks on media outlets and journalists should not be tolerated by Ukraine’s government or the public, whatever the editorial viewpoint of a TV station, newspaper, or website," Freedom House Vice President for International Programs Robert Herman stated.
Over the weekend, a group of 20 protestors set fire to the TV Inter headquarters in Ukraine. Freedom House described TV Inter as being widely regarded as "pro-Russian" in their coverage of events inside the country.
Herman stated that the protestors who set fire to the television station’s main room "ignored" the rights of a free press, which "requires protecting all points of view."
According to its website, TV Inter has been nominated for numerous awards. The station runs 24 hours a day largely broadcasting talk shows, social programs, documentaries and major events.
