Nearly 40 Dead, Over 92,000 Homeless in Niger Amid Flooding, OCHA Says

Flooding in Niger has left over three dozen dead and more than 92,000 homeless, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Over 9,000 homes have been destroyed in the country, OCHA was cited as saying by The New Indian Express daily on Thursday, adding that the homeless are being sheltered in schools and public buildings.

The floods in Niger are being caused by torrential rains, which were particularly heavy in August. Since last month, the death toll from the floods in the country has gone up from 14 to 38, according to OCHA.

According to the United Nations, over 50,000 people have received aid in Niger amid the annual rainy season and heavy flooding.
