WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The praising comments of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump about Russian president Vladimir Putin are not patriotic and are an insult to the American people, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said in a press conference on Thursday.
"He [Trump] praised Russia’s strongman Vladimir Putin, even taking the astonishing step of suggesting that he prefers the Russian president to our American president," Clinton said in a speech in White Plains, New York. "That is not just unpatriotic and insulting to the people of our country, as well as to our commander-in-chief, it is scary."
On Wednesday, Trump said he expects to have very good relations with Russia and President Putin if elected to become the next US president.
According to an opinion poll issued by Public Opinion Foundation this summer, some 30 percent of Russians believe that a Trump victory in the US presidential elections in November would meet the interests of Russia more than if Democratic rival Hillary Clinton wins.
