WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is cooperating with Turkey and the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to develop a plan to liberate the city of Raqqa from the Daesh, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Col. John Dorrian said in a briefing on Thursday.

"What happened in northern Syria most recently, the Turkish military moving in there and then sealing off the entire border… that has been extraordinarily helpful and a real setback for Daesh [Islamic State]," Dorrian stated.

The spokesperson noted that the US Defense Department "is now working with the Turkish military and… SDF partners to come up with the game plan for the way ahead" toward Raqqa.

"There were some challenges between the SDF and the Turkish military for some period of time," Dorrian stated. "We have opened lines of communication and coordination to make sure that we deconflict the things that are going on there."

The spokesperson noted that Turkey’s recent operations in northern Syria against the Daesh have been "extraordinarily helpful" and have undermined the terrorist group.

Dorrian said the United States "is now working with the Turkish military and… SDF partners to come up with the game plan for the way ahead" toward Raqqa.

The city of Raqqa is the de facto capital of the Daesh and their major stronghold in Syria. It has been under control of the jihadists since August 2014.

On Wednesday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara sees no problem in accepting Washington's proposal for a joint operation to free the Syrian city Raqqa from the Daesh.

The terror group, is outlawed in Russia and in many other countries around the world.
