MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Mogherini said the nuclear test was another direct violation of the country's international obligations not to produce or test nuclear weapons and a serious threat to peace and security of the entire region and beyond.
"I call on the DPRK to re-engage in a credible and meaningful dialogue with the international community, in particular in the framework of the six-party talks, and to cease this illegal and extremely dangerous behavior," Mogherini said in a statement.
Mogherini said she expected a response from the UN Security Council on the matter, pledging to coordinate the EU actions with the international body’s decisions.
The United Nations has banned North Korea from developing nuclear and ballistic missile technologies and imposed fresh sanctions on it after the fourth nuclear test in January.
