MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, the sides confirmed the necessity to form a united negotiating platform to keep Syria as a unified and secular state.
"On September 9, special presidential representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov took part in a series of meetings with representatives of ‘Moscow,’ ‘Cairo’ and ‘Astana’ Syrian opposition groups… including a series of consultations in collective format," the statement read.
"After the contacts, it was confirmed that the programs proposed by the main group of the Syrian opposition should complement each other and form a joint constructive negotiations platform to preserve Syria as a united, sovereign and secular state in which all citizens enjoy equal rights regardless of their ethnic and religious affiliation," the statement added.
