BUSHEHR (Sputnik) — A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the second nuclear reactor took place at the site in southern Iran earlier in the day.
"Today, we begin the construction of the station’s second power unit. The construction of a third unit will start in two years," Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri announced at the ceremony.
Iran-Russia Nuclear Cooperation to Pursue Peaceful Objective
Iran’s cooperation with Russia on nuclear energy will be limited to peaceful civil uses, Jahangiri said.
"Our cooperation with Russia will be aimed at the peaceful use of nuclear energy, this will be beyond anyone’s doubt."
He said nuclear energy cooperation between the two nations would not be limited to the construction of reactors. The vice-president suggested the production of stable isotopes for medical and agricultural purposes as another potential sphere.
